Jed’s Maple Open House 2011
WOW!! Over 1,600 of you braved the muddy roads to come spend some time with us during Maple Open House Weekend — Thank you!!
The weather was beautiful and it was a fitting way to celebrate the beginning of Spring. We are excited about our new 'green' evaporator and glad so many of you got to see it in action. Steve's new 'baby' runs on used vegetable oil and uses high pressure steam to turn the sap into syrup (new tour pictures coming soon!). We served almost 200 pizzas with the help of the NOFA (Northeast Organic Farming Association) wood-fired pizza oven. It was great fun (and delicious) to share not only our maple pizza recipe with everyone but lots of local, organic veggies (thank you Berry Creek Farm, Butterworks Farm and Foote Brook Farm). There was lots of sugar on snow, maple specialty food tasting, cooking demos (a special thank you to Green Mountain Farm to School), Steve's Jr. Sugarmaker Class and the Tree & Track Trek with Siskin Ecological (thank you Jason). A very special, very sweet thank you to our family and friends who help make the weekend possible - we couldn't do it without you! Stay tuned for next year - we have great ideas for some new surprises already
