Jed’s Maple Open House 2008
Our Ninth Annual Maple Open House was held March 29th and 30th. We were joined by over a thousand members of the Jed’s ‘extended’ family. Saturday was very cold but sunny. Sunday we had much fairer weather and those attending seemed a bit more comfortable partaking in the outside activities.
We offered a host of new activities this year including a wonderful tree identification hike hosted by Jason Brueck of Siskin Ecological Adventures - nothing like a brisk walk on a cold day to get the blood pumping! We all learned a lot and rumor is he has even more information to share next year! We expanded our ever popular cooking demonstrations and shared recipes every hour this year. A very special thank you to all our ‘guest’ chefs including ‘Aunt’ Sue and Chris Corriveau. Be sure to check the website for the recipes we shared! We reorganized our children’s activities and the new stand alone stations were a big hit. Those completing their quiz (Jed and Jonah stood by ready to help with answers when needed ) were treated to a special prize! Steve still taught his Junior Sugarmaker class but with a new twist this year. And, we were again blessed with the music of Steve Rapson and his wife, Rosemary.
The weekend is a wonderful chance to see how we make our maple syrup, taste the different grades of syrup, learn a bit more about sugaring and eat, eat, eat! We served sugar on snow all weekend and all our specialty foods were out for tasting. The cooking demo’s will continue to grow and expand – we are working on recipes for next year already! If you haven’t had a chance to attend our Open House please try to come next year. The event is our way of saying Thank you to everyone who has helped us grow this business over the years. It wouldn’t be possible without you!
A very special, very sweet thank you to the friends, family members and volunteers who help us put on the weekend. We know it is a lot of work and we appreciate all you do!
Hope to see you next year!
